cloudera version Hadoop 2.5.0-cdh5.3 and hive version apache-hive-2.1.0. Could you please explain what went wrong in my case.

@BhuvaneshK:

No way of missing hive-site.xml file. Please check in /etc/hive/conf
Check below:

[vanampudi@gw01 ~]$ cd /etc/hive/conf
[vanampudi@gw01 conf]$ ls
beeline-log4j.properties.template hive-env.sh.template ivysettings.xml
conf.server hive-exec-log4j.properties mapred-site.xml
hive-default.xml.template hive-log4j.properties parquet-logging.properties
hive-env.sh hive-site.xml

Venkat

I even tried finding hivre-site.xml in my Ubantu system,but the configuration file is missing.I follwed the below steps to install hive
Download the package of Apache Hive hive-1.1.0+cdh5.11.0+1013

https://www.cloudera.com/documentation/enterprise/release-notes/topics/cdh_vd_cdh_package_tarball_511.html#tarball_511x

untar the file by typing

tar -xvzf hive-1.1.0-cdh5.11.0.tar.gz

sudo mv hive-1.1.0-cdh5.11.0 /usr/local/hive

cd

sudo gedit ~/.bashrc
export HIVE_HOME="/usr/local/hive"
export PATH="$PATH:$HIVE_HOME/bin"
source ~/.bashrc
restart terminal :

cd $HIVE_HOME/conf
ls
sudo cp hive-env.sh.template hive-env.sh
ls
sudo gedit hive-env.sh

add
export HADOOP_HOME=/usr/local/hadoop
sudo apt-get install openjdk-8-jdk-headless

@BhuvaneshK:

Per my knowledge, system config files are under /etc directory in Linux/Unix environment.
You should check in this location for hive-site.xml : /etc/hive/conf
Please check once again.

Note: /usr is for user related programs/apps in the form of binaries or executables.

Hope this help.
Please post if still issue persists.
Thanks
