@Shantanu_Gupta
–warehouse-dir: It creates a directory which works as database directory (sqoop_import) and table name (as given in import command) directory automatically created with imported files within warehouse dir(database directory).

sqoop import \
--connect jdbc:mysql://ms.itversity.com:3306/retail_db \
--username retail_user \
--password itversity \
--tables orders \
--warehouse-dir /user/annapurnachinta/sqoop_import/

Output as:

/sqoop_import/orders/movies

/sqoop_import/orders/_SUCCESS

/sqoop_import/orders/part-m-00000

–target-dir: It creates a directory which works as table name (sqoop_import) with imported files.

sqoop import \
--connect jdbc:mysql://ms.itversity.com:3306/retail_db \
--username retail_user \
--password itversity \
--tables orders \
--target-dir /user/annapurnachinta/sqoop_import/

Output as:

/sqoop_import/_SUCCESS

/sqoop_import/part-m-00000
